So I managed to find a WordPad version of the horrible horrible Metal Gear novel. Not the MGS novel. The one made in about 1990 as part of Ninendo's 'no, please listen to us, games are GOOD for kids' phase when they were making children's books based on video games.
Why am I reading it?
I couldn't honestly tell you.
Okay. It's based on the NES version's MANUAL. No Big Boss, no Resistance, no Galzburg. Instead we have
VERMON CATAFFY THE MOST TERRIFYING TERRORIST OF THE FREE WORLD and Commander South and the Snake Men and Nouria, a country I may have to steal because I hate coming up with countries for MGS fic.
I'm not going to fault it for coming up with a story for a game that really doesn't have much of one. Also, it has to be silly, because it's kind of aimed at nine-year-olds.
So anyway. According to the book, Snake is some guy named Justin Halley who's a member of the Marines and the best man in a unit called the 'Snake Men'. His title is Captain, he's twenty, and the book won't stop referring to him as Halley even when he's supposed to be on mission, which reminds me of those obnoxious fics where they only ever call them Dave and Hal even when they're trying to infiltrate warnuclear strongcastles to fight METAL GEAR. So anyway. He's told he has to go into Outer Heaven in the jungle of 'Nouria' in order to save Ellen Pettrovich and her dad
Ivan Pettrovich (curiously, Ellen is the only character in the story who keeps her real name). Anyway, Commander South and his new creepy Lieutenant then tell us the real plan, in order to eliminate any suspense - Snake has to buy them time so that they can send in the 'Fox Hound Squad' and kill
VERMON CATAFFY THE MOST TERRIFYING TERRORIST OF THE FREE WORLD.
I'm still not sure why I'm reading it.
( I'll copypaste some of the funny bits. )
